Challenge Driven Innovation project (UDI-Prostata)

Collaboration projects

Since May 2016, CREATE Health has been heading a collaboration project between Skåne County, Immunovia AB, Swedish Institute for Health Economics (IHE), Phadia Laboratory Systems, and Oxford Biobank, called “Advanced diagnostics in oncology - a test bed for risk prediction in prostate cancer”. The project is funded by VINNOVA and is part of their Challenge Driven Innovation program.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among men worldwide. Diagnosing prostate cancer is one of the major challenges facing healthcare, currently leading to overdiagnosis and overtreatment of patients. The goal of this project is to identify robust and clinically relevant biomarkers, i.e. disease-related indicators, using a simple blood sample, that together give rise to a specific disease signature. This will pave the way for a blood-based diagnostic test for prostate cancer.

This study is performed on serum samples from two separate retrospective cohorts including prostate cancer patients and healthy controls. In addition, a prospective study is now being collected at three hospitals in Skåne. Within the project we also perform a health economic study to calculate the cost that could be saved for the society, but more importantly the quality of life for patient that can be gained using a better diagnostic test for prostate cancer patients.
