A European FP7 research grant has been awarded to a consortium that includes Prof. Peter James of the Dept. of Immunotechnology. The reBIRTH (Brain Imaging Return To Health) consortium is a Marie Curie Initial Training Network that gathers experts on molecular mechanisms of age-associated pathologies including neurodegeneration and depression. The group consists of seven universities, two private companies and one non-profit research organisation from 7 European countries. They work together to identify stress-regulated molecules provoking neuronal death and hindering neurogenesis, and monitor the consequences of these processes in human brain using advanced imaging techniques. Prof. James receives 6.4 MSEK and will be taking on three PhD students during the next three months.
