Dept. of Immunotechnology research featured on the cover of the Journal of Immunology

– Published 22 October 2019

A recent study of antibody recognition of a major mite allergen, an allergy-causing substance, was featured on the Nov 1, 2019 issue of the Journal of Immunology. In this study researchers from the Dept. of Immunotechnology, in collaboration with reasearchers from Indoor Biotechnologies, Inc., the University of South Carolina, the National Institutes of Health, and the University of Virginia, demonstrated how antibodies including human IgE recognise the Der p 2 allergen and use that information to design hypoallergenic variants of the allergen. Such variants may be used in safer future vaccines aimed at curing mite allergy.
