About
Future medicine and diagnostic tools depend on a deep understanding of cellular and molecular processes, and the capability to translate novel findings into solutions for defined clinical problems. At the Department of Immunotechnology, we apply such strategies to selected focus areas such as immuno-oncology, biomarker identification, immunotoxicology and sensitisation.
Our activities include development of prognostic and diagnostic methods as well as therapeutic antibodies, the establishment of human 3D-models for functional drug analyses, and advanced biomarker analysis relevant to precision medicine.
The department is located at Medicon Village, where our research is carried out in close collaboration with other faculties, companies, and the healthcare sector. We also actively collaborate with researchers and clinicians world-wide.
Research environment
Several key infrastructure facilities are available, including specialised laboratories for spatial omics, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, and antibody production. Bioinformatics is applied across focus areas as NBIS (National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden) experts are physically located at the department.
The department further hosts a unit within Display and Selection Technologies, which is part of the national research platform SciLifeLab Drug Discovery and Development. The translational cancer center CREATE Health is managed at the department and we further participate in Lund University’s initiatives within Engineering Health, Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP), and Lund University Cancer Center (LUCC).
History
The Division of Immunotechnology was formed in 1990 as part of Chemical Engineering, and became The Department of Immunotechnology in 2007.
