Molecular evolution group

Our group mainly focuses on the use of human antibodies and human antibody technology. Our research has, in response to technological development in the field, evolved out from an initial cellular-based antibody technology focus towards implementation of molecular technologies to enable scientific discoveries.

The research group has extended the utility of molecular tools and employed them to further our understanding of antibodies in health and disease. For instance, we have:

  • developed molecular methodology for engineering of human antibodies, for instance in therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
  • developed a large collection of human monoclonal IgE for studies of the role of antibodies in allergic disease.
  • defined molecular events during immunotherapy of allergic disease using gene sequencing, microarray technology, and antibody technology.
  • demonstrated protein-ligand molecular interactions using not only X-ray crystallography but also neutron diffraction technology.
  • defined functional antibody evolution in response to virus proteins, including e.g. SARS-CoV-2 and cytomegalovirus.
  • developed methodology, tools, and frameworks for studies of adaptive immune repertoires and used such tools to enhance our understanding of antibody responses.
  • exploited novel scaffold for carbohydrate recognition and analysis.

Science for Life Laboratory

Furthermore, we operate a therapeutic antibody-focussed unit within the Science for Life Laboratory's (SciLifeLab’s) Drug Discovery and Development Platform, through which we offer integrated drug discovery efforts to the Swedish academic research community.
