Streptococcus pyogenes

The research group is an independent part of the Protein Technology group at the Department of Immunotechnology

The evolutionary pressure induced by the use of antibiotics has forced bacterial pathogens to develop defense strategies resulting in antibiotic resistance, which now represents one of the most serious medical problems of our time. To develop novel and generic approaches to accurately describe how bacteria develop virulent traits and to exploit this knowledge for the development of novel therapeutic and diagnostic approaches for infectious disease is of high priority

Research Focus,

Our research focus is to characterize the molecular mechanisms behind invasive bacterial diseases and to find new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities for severe bacterial infections. We particularly interested in the virulence mechanisms for Streptococcus pyogenes (or Group A Streptococcus)
